Shoes for Orphan Souls Starts Countdown to Two Million Shoes

By July 16, 2009

International (MNN) — The countdown to 2 million has begun.

Since 1999, Buckner International has been distributing
pairs of shoes to children through their Shoes for Orphan Souls ministry. The shoes
are distributed to at-risk children and orphans in the United States and 55
countries around the world.

So far Buckner, with the help of fundraisers across the U.S.
and team taking short-term mission trips, has distributed more than 1.9 million
shoes worldwide.

In June, a team traveled to Peru visiting six different
orphanages. They not only distributed 1,200 to 1,300 pairs of shoes to these
children, but they also had the opportunity to share bible stories at some of the
orphanages.

On June 17, the third annual Taste of Seguin fundraiser was
held in Seguin, Texas to raise money for more shoes. The event saw much success
and a large community response to raise funds.

In addition to these past successes, on August 7 and 8, Shoes
for Orphan Souls is partnering with Rock the Desert Concert in Midland, Texas
to collect even more new shoes for orphans.

Please pray for this fundraiser and its success. Also, pray
for the individuals who are being the hands and feet of Jesus and distributing
new shoes to orphans. Pray these children will see Christ love for them through
these volunteers and will one day come to Christ.
