Sponsors needed for Dalit children in India

By June 29, 2005

India (MNN) — As millions of Dalits have forsaken Hinduism, Christians are reaching out to those considered untouchable by many in India’s society. Bibles for the World is just one example.

13-year-old Rekha is one of many children in Bibles for the World’s Partnership Ministries program. She is from a Dalit Hindu family. But, that all changed when the family heard about the redeeming love of Christ. Her father holds the lowest job in Indian society; he manually cleans sewers. All of his life he believed this was his fate, and that it would be the fate of his children. But after coming into contact with Bibles for the World’s Partnership Ministry workers, he now believes his children can have a much better life.

Accepted into our Partnership Parents program Rekha is now studying in their Dalit school in Delhi. A solid Christian education can break the chains of bondage and abuse that go back literally thousands of years in her family line.

Rekha and many other Dalit children in Delhi are waiting for sponsors who will make their dreams of a better life come true. Your gift of $24 can sponsor Rekha or a child like her, which will allow her to not only have a Christian education, but will also help a child hear the Gospel and perhaps come to know Jesus personally.
