(Afghanistan)–Headlining today’s news, Christians are reaching out to the Afghan people who are fleeing the country in droves. World Concern’s Kelly Miller says there are several reasons for the migration. “The drought situation has caused significant migration of people within and out of the country. Combine that with many years of civil war and of course with current conflict as of September 11th and all of those ingredients put together create a massive refugee flow.” More than one-fifth of the country’s population is displaced. Miller says, beginning today, they’re collecting hygiene kits to supplement their clothing, medical and food assistance. He says the need goes beyond refugees. “Many of the refugees were absorbed into the local population. It’s very important that we respond not only to the refugees, but also to the local population. On a relative scale, very, very, very poor people going into a very, very poor situation. So the need is great on all fronts.” Call 1-800-755-5022 to help.
