(India)–Headlining today’s news heavy flooding of all the major rivers in an eastern Indian state has left 23 people dead and forced millions to flee their homes. World Vision’s President Rich Sterns is in India. He says Orissa State needs help. “They indicated that as many as 4 million people have been displaced because of the flooding. And, the concern this year is that this is the beginning of the monsoon season, and there’s already serious flooding because of the rains. It’s supposed to rain there until September and it’s only July, so this could be a real catastrophe if the rains don’t subside.” Sterns says they’re providing food, medicine and clothing in an effort to share Christ’s love. He says Christians need to get involved. “The best thing to do in emergency relief situations is really to send in a donation because what’s needed in the early phases of this is cash so that supplies can be bought and resources can be marshaled. It’s impractical to ship things from the United States.” Call our resource line to help.
