Story number 1 for 2 Jan 2002

(Afghanistan)–We begin today in Afghanistan where clothing distribution is moving forward in that country hard hit by war and drought. World Concern’s Cory Heins, speaking to us via Satellite phone from inside the country, says clothing distribution is going well. “We distributed to 1,000 families. A family consists of about eight members so, we had a sack of clothing that contained 15 pieces of children’s clothing and 10 pieces of adults. And so, we serviced 8,000 people. So, we were very happy with that.” Afghanistan is reeling from not only the onslaught of war, but also four years of drought. Heins says they also plan food and seed distribution, all given to show God’s love for these incredibly needy people. “We’ve been so blessed in America with so many things. It just really hits you in the heart. It’s our opportunity to reach the people out here who are suffering.” Heins says no other organizations are working in that district and so additional funding is need.
