Story number 1 for 9 Aug 2000

By August 9, 2000

Topping today’s news, makeshift shelters line the streets of northeast India. Millions are homeless as heavy rain led to landslides and massive flooding across Bhutan, Nepal. Food for the Hungry’s Roe Ann Wood explains what they’re doing to help. “We’ve been working in partnership with an organization called “The Evangelical Fellowship of India’s Commission on the Relief”. Right now, however, we are having a difficult time making contact with EFICOR. We don’t know if the lines are down or what, but we are continuing to monitor the situation in India. We do have monies released to go in and help with this flood relief as soon as we can make contact with EFICOR.” Wood adds that the region has been very hostile to the Gospel, but the disaster might pave the way to Jesus Christ. “Food for the Hungry goes in during a relief situation and we try to meet the people’s physical needs first, and show the love of Christ, praying that opportunities would open up to where we can share the hope of the Gospel.”
