Elsewhere, the government of El Salvador has declared a nation-wide state of emergency in response to a growing epidemic of dengue (den-gay) fever that has caused 19 deaths this year. CAM International missionaries have sent out a call for prayer in response. We spoke with Judy Schmidt who confirmed the crisis is touching everyone. “In the church that we go to, they’re very much aware of it, because our pastor’s son did get the dengue. He did not get the hemorrhaging type because God is really gracious. In our whole church area, and the area that we’re working with, they’re very much aware of it and of the precautions that you have to take.” Schmidt asks that other believers would: “Pray that God would be gracious and that the epidemic would stop; and that God would use this to open up people’s hearts so that they would be more receptive to the Gospel, that they would look for answers, and know who to look to-that they would turn to God in a genuine way, not just because of the emergency.”
