Story number 2 for 29 May 2001

(Venezuela)–Meanwhile, a year and a half after devastating floods and landslides devastated Venezuela’s coast, life is returning and new ministries are springing up. Latin America Mission’s Ken MacHarg reports: “Local Christian leaders say that the Lord has used the disaster, that some say killed nearly 100,000 people, to challenge the church and spread the Gospel. Today, churches are responding to people, especially youth, who ask why the disaster happened and as a result are leading many to the Lord. While food and clothing distribution continues, missionaries report that as people return to the battered coast, churches are growing and cell groups are forming throughout the region. In addition, churches in the interior are helping to reunite family members who haven’t known if their relatives were buried under the debris or alive in another city. For Mission Network News, I’m Ken MacHarg in Caracas, Venezuela.”
