Meanwhile, western missionaries are filling a different role as they minister in foreign fields. Bob Spencer is the International Director of Christians In Action. Spencer says many western workers are now serving under national leadership. “The people who used to be our disciples are now our leaders in our fields and in our areas. The question is, do we still need North American missionaries. And, the answer is defiantly yes. The nationals can team up with the North American and go into areas that normally would take them many more years to raise up the support they need to be able to branch out from their local congregations.” The need for workers is great, so Spencer says Christians In Action is training people with different skills to serve in one of their 20 fields. “We have a four month training course in August coming up and we will be preparing people to go into a cross cultural situation, work along side of nationals. You do not have to have a degree in theology, but you should have some type of skill that will benefit the nationals in that area.”
