USA (MNN) — Growing up as an adopted child can be difficult. 19-year-old Keisha says she has struggled with her identity.

“At times it was kind of hard: wondering where you came from and things like that,” she shares. “I don’t know anyone who is like me or who shares my blood.”

Michigan-based Adoption Associates helped Keisha’s adoptive parents find her. When Keisha found herself on the other side of the coin, the agency once again played an important role in her life. They helped Keisha through the tough decision and ensuing process of placing her child for adoption.

“This experience has been by far the hardest thing that I’ve ever, ever, ever, ever gone through,” Keisha states, but she adds that the agency was there for her, every step of the way.

“I felt completely comfortable just picking up my phone and calling my case worker and talking about it; she was always, always there.”

Growing up without any knowledge of her birth family led Keisha to choose a different path for her daughter. Adoption Associates helped the teen mom set up an open adoption so that she and her daughter could still have a relationship.

“She has to know that what I did wasn’t easy, and I didn’t do it because I didn’t want her,” emphasizes Keisha.

Though it was a difficult decision, Keisha says it paid off in the end. Her daughter is growing up in a loving family, Keisha says, who can give her the life she deserves.

“I have so much reassurance that I made the right decision. I think God just gave me peace about the entire situation,” she adds.

Pray that more birth moms will discover that God is the only true Comforter and Prince of Peace. Keisha says the Lord came to her rescue soon after her daughter was born.

“I was completely convinced that I was going to go and get my daughter back [and cancel the adoption]… And then, He just showed me that she was where she needed to be,” says Keisha.
