What did Jesus say? Reach the unreached

By July 12, 2021

International (MNN) — Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He commanded His disciples to spread His message across the world.

And yet 2,000 years later, a stark reality remains: “One-third of humanity does not have access to the Gospel,” missiologist and author Dr. Marvin J. Newell says.

“What do we do about that? I’ve gone to the very words of Jesus, that He gave in the Great Commission passages, and have been able to take from what Jesus said [about] what we should be doing in reaching the unreached.”

Newell serves as Executive Director of the Alliance for the Unreached. “We [exist] to bring awareness to the Christian public about unreached peoples around the globe,” he explains.

He penned his latest book, A Third Of Us, with application in mind. “Although it’s missiological in content, it is not written technically,” Newell says.

“It’s written as an ‘easy read’ for people to understand what Jesus said about reaching unreached peoples.”

Divided into nine chapters, A Third Of Us – premiering in August – is perfect for a nine-week small group study.

Divided into nine chapters, Newell says the book – premiering in August – is a perfect resource for a nine-week small group study. “It was [impactful] to me to see how clear He (Jesus) was in His instructions to them, which are instructions to us as well,” Newell says.

“Once Jesus resurrected from the dead, He spent 40 days with His disciples before ascending into heaven. He used that time as kind of a little ‘mission school’ to those disciples [about] what their next task was to be.”

“Hopefully, people come away from this book seeing that every Christian is to be involved in reaching the unreached, and they can do it in one of two ways. They can either be a goer or a sender,” Newell says.

“This one-third of humanity, these three billion people, can be reached if we all get involved.”
