Passion movie leads people to Christ on the Internet

Canada (MNN) — Mel Gibson’s film “The Passion of the Christ” has seen millions of people walk through the box office. The film depicting the final 12 hours of the life of Christ has also brought attention to a new website TheLife.com. The website is the work of Truth Media, a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, Canada.

Truth Media’s Karen Schenk says they’ve seen an incredible response to TheLife.com. “In the last 30 days we’ve seen an average of about 10,000 visitors a day coming to the web site. The day after the movie released it hit a peak of about 19,000,” says Schenk.

A chat room is a major part of the website. “We were seeing constantly about 30 to 35 people on that chat room all day long,” says Schenk. She adds, “So, we scrambled and put together 24 hour moderation for that chat room. And, we have seen quite a few people being led to the Lord in one-to-one discipleship and then being put into follow up right on the heels of that.”

Truth Media uses the internet for evangelism regularly. Schenk says this web site was unique. “We’ve never seen one just start at this level and to have these kind of numbers and impact coming in right from the ‘get-go’.”

The web site won’t die as the movie stops playing in theaters in the United States. “There are several different countries that have asked for the right to translate some of our material. As the movie is released in other countries they will be either linking to our site or translating our material,” says Schenk. She says they will also use the web site for Easter outreach.

People from many different countries are accessing TheLife.com. Those numbers will only increase as the film is released in more and more languages.

Continue to pray that those who come to the website will ultimately come to Christ.
