Amazon Smile: an easy way to give

By July 28, 2016

USA (MNN) — Amazon Smile is a way to give to non-profit organizations, such as the Slavic Gospel Association, when making purchases from Amazon.com. Because sometimes, though the heart may desire to donate to a ministry, the wallet says it can’t.

Here’s How It Works

When you go to Smile.Amazon.com, it’s the exact same website as the popular online retailer, Amazon.com, except now you can select a non-profit organization you’d like to benefit.

Then, for every qualifying purchase made using Amazon Smile, Amazon will donate .5 percent to one of the nearly one-million  501(c)(3) public charitable organizations they’re teamed up with. And some of those also happen to be Mission Network News partners too.

Though .5 percent doesn’t sound like much, when it’s combined with hundreds of shoppers all giving from their purchases, the count adds up.

In fact, Joel Griffith with Slavic Gospel Association says, “Well, Amazon Smile is really a wonderful program for a ministry, a non-profit ministry, to not only get awareness out there, but it benefits the ministry and it also, when you’re out shopping, it’s a way you can do your shopping as well as help contribute to a ministry you support and advance the Gospel.”

The Impact

Since Slavic Gospel joined the Amazon Smile program back in 2014, it has received over an additional $400 from donors who use Amazon Smile. Anyone who’s lived off of a tight budget, much the way ministries do in order to serve God, knows that even a couple extra hundred dollars make a huge difference.

“You know, we’re just thankful to have that as an extra channel, not only to help support our ministries, but also I think in a way it’s a service to our partners as well,” Griffith explains. “Because it’s really convenient to shop online. I shop online quite a lot frankly. There are a lot of things that I used to like to buy that you can’t get local anymore, and Amazon’s right up there.”

After all, in today’s world, so many things are online, why not shop a little more online, get the (usually) cheaper prices, and give a little to an organization of your choice. Everyone needs something that isn’t sold in-store right nearby, like school books, or that particular hair gel, or a comfortable and sturdy hammock to relax in. Whatever it may be, it’s probably sold on Amazon.

So sign up for Amazon Smile today, order your favorite projects, and take joy in knowing the organization of your choice just received a little extra to keep sharing God’s Word.

And, once you’ve done that, hashtag it with #smileandgive. Share with your friends, and invite them to join too!
